Matthew 16:16

And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Messiah, the son of the living God.

Again, Peter was not saying that Yeshua was God, rather he was saying that Yeshua was the messiah who brings about the return of the tribes.

Later Peter in his own writings would allude to Hosea to indicate that the purpose of Christianity was to reach the lost sheep of the House of Israel (Hosea 1:6-10):

1 Peter 2:10

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Fishers of Men

At the beginning of his ministry Yeshua tells his talmidim that they will be “fishers of men.”

Matthew 4:19

19 And he said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

The reference to “fishers” is also found in the writings of the prophet Jeremiah. This again is in reference to the House of Israel returning to both the land and to God.

Jeremiah 1:11

16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, says the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.
